Pacific Institutes for Research
New Research Associate
01/05/09 - PIR has hired a new researcher associate, Mari Strand Cary. Mari earned her PhD in Child Psychology at the University of Minnesota, and more recently is completing work as a Principle Investigator on a Goal 2 IES grant on Cognition and Student Learning at Carnegie Mellon University. This project focuses on computer based science instruction. Her research focus at PIR will be on the Institutes' math grants.
Mari and her family have recently relocated from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to join PIR's research team. We are very excited about this opportunity for both Mari and PIR.

PIR receives funding for the FUSION Project
The purpose of this Goal 2 project is to develop a mathematics intervention program for at-risk first grade students. The FUSION intervention will be developed to improve mathematics achievement and to prevent the long-term development of serious mathematics difficulties. The FUSION intervention will be designed for use in schools that use a multi-tiered model of service delivery, and readily applicable in schools that rely on a Response to Intervention model for the identification of learning disabilities.
